Toastmaster of the Day

Jieliang Pan
06/05/14

Jieliang Pan is a guy who tells it just like he sees it at that moment. He makes up his mind early and sticks to it. He is a dedicated hard working man and is reliable.

When I was LGM, most of the club leads I found (that panned out) were in the OKC area of the state. Jieliang was Division Governor.

I remember spending a lot of time with Chesapeake then when things broke and it appeared we might charter three clubs there, I relied on Jieliang to supply a good portion of the people to participate in the demonstration meetings, and he came through for me. TI suggests 8 people to participate. We usually had 6 or 7. Those same people were the sponsors and mentors for the clubs. All three clubs have a chance to be Presidents Distinguished this year and Jieliang was an integral part in chartering all three of them.

Jieliang doesn't have to be the point man. He is not a show person. He looks at the end result and puts people in place who he trusts and let's them do the job. A good example is Michaela Zuber. As LGET he picked her to be conference chair and let her do the job. Everyone that participated knows how well that worked.

One of the more memorable times in Toastmasters for me was when Jieliang was LGM and international President-Elect George Yen was in town. We set up a Charter Party for Chesapeake and Jieliang sent an email to DG Edward Engelke and copied me; said he wanted me to take the lead. We had all three clubs there, George Yen, IPDG Matt Branstetter, a banner and certificates for each club. Chesapeake's Kate Beavin got it started. We had a dignitary from Chesapeake there. Matt introduced George and to finish it up Edward Engelke gave his finest speech. Up to that time, it was my proudest moment in Toastmasters. It was quite a show. If not for Jieliang, I would not have had that opportunity.

Jieliang Pan is my June 5, 2014 'Toastmaster of the Day'.

Note: Toastmaster of the Day is a recognition from the 2013-2014 District Governor, Ben Cox, DTM.
