Toastmaster of the Day

Mike Kirkland
06/06/14

I sent an e-mail to U1 Area Governor and Phillips 66 Club President Sean Patrick saying I would be attending the Phillips 66 Club on Thursday. Sean sent an email to CVPM Mike Kirkland saying he would not be able to attend but to meet me in the lobby of the Adams Building in Bartlesville and escort me to the meeting room. I arrived and met Joe Moniz (another of the members) at the desk. He waited with me until Mike arrived then the three of us rode the elevator up a few floors to the meeting room.

I have to say, although the meeting was short of members, it was well planned. All the parts were there except prepared speakers. The club is in the process of electing the officers for the coming year and as Toastmaster Mike used a portion of the meeting to discuss each officer's role.

Joe Moniz was the Table Topics Master and conducted the session using a small paper box that contained a nest and a Pet Rock. He had a question about the Pet Rock product for each person in the room including me. It was an interesting and comical 10-15 minutes.

I remembered Mike Kirkland from the Area U1/U2 Speech contest at the Library in Owasso, OK. Mike was the contest Toastmaster. It was a well run event with competition in each area.

Earlier I noticed there were three members on the roster that still haven't paid their dues. Currently they have 17 paid up members with 5 goals met. The three members who have not paid would give them 20 and Phillips 66 would be a Distinguished Club. As VPM, Mike said his goal was to have 20 paid members before June 30.

Phillips 66 Club chartered April 1, 1969. CVPM Mike joined August 1, 2012. The photo shows all the members who were present. From left to right they are: Mike Kirkland, Regina Diamond, Joe Moniz, Gary Glick, Justin Smith, and Stan Beck.

Mike Kirkland is my June 6, 2014 'Toastmaster of the day'.

Note: Toastmaster of the Day is a recognition from the 2013-2014 District Governor, Ben Cox, DTM.
