Many club officers wonder if they should attend officers training for a position they have already been trained for. There are several ways to answer this question. Yes. Because the Toastmasters Distinguished Club Program gives points to each club when four or more officers are trained twice a year. The District recognizes clubs who get all seven officers trained. Yes. Because your attendance in the club officer training (assuming you attend a group session) adds value to others in the class. Your multiple year experience can be useful as questions are asked by those new to the position. Yes. Because our club officer trainers take the time to learn what to teach, show up at the location, and need the club officers as the audience for their training program. I think it is important that Toastmaster members always remember that everyone they see performing a role are there as servant volunteers who are learning and growing themselves. Often, teaching at a TLI is a larger audience than many of us get to talk to normally. Yes. Because you can always learn new techniques from others. Yes. Because you too can become a trainer. I hope that you will find value in taking training even when you feel confident you don't need it. I would tell the truth that I asked the same question when I was a Treasurer multiple years. When focused on myself, I couldn't see the growth which would come to me by attending - expanding my network of Toastmasters friends - learning new things - and becoming a leader myself.
