On April 12, 2014 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, District 16 had a major public relations event at the Okmulgee Super Saturday Event. Participating Toastmasters:

Lindsey Williams (Division T Governor, President - Okmulgee Orators)
Mary Ankrom (VPM - World Class Speakers)
Nita Beshear( (Asst. Division T Governor, Sec/Tres - Okmulgee Orators)
Joseph Dirrum (SAA - Okmulgee Orators)
Ute Nestler (Area T3 Governor, VPE- Okmulgee Orators)
Randall Baker (Area T2 Governor)
Rhonda Green (District 16 Public Relations Officer)
T. A. Jones (Lieutenant Governor Marketing)

Lindsey Williams prepared an awesome display designated to catch the attention of the 18,000 to 20,000 participants at the event. He also coordinated with the promoters of the event to get a Toastmasters booth. The booth was located strategically in the main walk-way, next to the ATM machine and adjacent to the Chamber of Commerce kiosk where people were signing up for the free prizes.

Individuals were stopped in passing and introduced to the benefits of Toastmasters. You could hear words like "great practice for interviews", "greater communication skills is equal to greater salaries", "a way to get over the fear of public speaking", "an awesome way to increase self-confidence " and many more.

Each interested person was given a few Toastmasters materials which included; the "Find Your Voice" brochure, the "Voice of Leadership" brochure, the "Benefits of Toastmasters" flier, the "All About Toastmasters" brochure and "10 Tips for Successful Public Speaking" flier, all supplied for the event by the District.

After a brief explanation of Toastmasters benefits, interested persons were asked to write down their contact information. Over 120 event participants signed up to receive an email invitation to the next club meeting.

Working the booth was awesome. Members got the opportunity to practice their impromptu speaking skills addressing a varied audience, while helping to generate interest in local Okmulgee, Muskogee, Tulsa and Oklahoma City clubs. The entire event was very successful. District 16 will be getting some new members for our clubs and possibly a few leads for new clubs.
