What a delightful trip. I found the meeting location with little difficulty. The STEP web site has a layout with numbers on the buildings. The club meets in 540. Regretfully Alice and Jieliang fell sick and did not attend, but a host of potential members did. Every seat was taken and chairs were placed behind chairs. Page, Dolores and I came to support the club's efforts. Club VPE Ava Doyle sat at a table in the rear with flyers, sign in sheets and registration forms. Every time I glanced her way she was smiling. This is what I noticed about the club. They had a remarkable meeting with all the parts. The Theme was 'What's in a Name'. The word of the day was Loquacious. Brian Goad gave his Ice Breaker. Former Chesapeake PLAYer member Juliet Thomas led Table Topics. Club President Ilias Gibigaya evaluated Brian's speech. Partly because of the extra large attendance the meeting started late, but would have finished on time except Ilias wanted to recognize all those (16) in attendance. Wow! What a show! Here is the last line of a post I made on Facebook about a January 28 trip to the STEP Club on January 22. "...Mark my words. Take a second look at this club on June 30. You will be surprised!" Here is a response from Ava Doyle. "Whoa! My ears are burning. We're glad you're coming to see us. We're EXCITED and truly thankful you can attend. We meet at 6:30pm inside the Interngenerational Computer Lab located inside the Kramer School of Nursing Building on the campus of Oklahoma City University. For information on how to get there, please go to our website, www.stepokc.org. We'll see you next week!!! Have a great weekend". Ava Doyle joined Toastmasters on May 1, 2012. She is STEP VPE. One of the methods she employed to advertise the open house event was UMeetUp.com(?). Ava Doyle is my January 30, 2014 'Toastmaster of the Day'. |
