Edward Engelke District Governor (2012-2013) As District Governor for 2012-2013, I had the privilege to work with some of the finest Toastmasters in the world, YOU! Together, we developed common goals and visions to be the best Toastmasters that we could be and we instituted what we knew would be the path of success which would carry us into successful futures. I love winning when challenged. I think that by our human nature we are designed for challenges. Some seek challenges, others have challenges come to them, but it's a fact that we perform best when we are challenged. A Toastmaster member will face challenges and grow and a Toastmaster Club will face challenges and grow. It's been said, If you're not growing, you're dying. I guess by my logic, if you are not challenged, you are dying. This year, to add to the excitement and challenge of being a District 16 Toastmaster, I created a recognition program that would help us focus our efforts on growth. The recognition program allowed me to give a pat on the back to clubs as they met growth challenges. At the District's Spring Conference held May 17-18 in Norman, Okla., I verbally recognized several clubs in these categories:

The following are the recipients of the 2012-2013 Achievement Awards. April 1 AwardsClub Membership Double by April 1 Achievement Award. Any club that doubled its membership or added at least 12 new members by April 1 gets $75 for the TI store. (Based on the number of members they had on July 1.) Announced at the Spring Conference, May 2013, and email was sent to the club.
Club Charter Strength by April 1 Achievement Award. Any club that started the year below charter strength but is charter strength by April 1st gets $50 for the TI store. (Charter strength is 20 members.) Announced at the Spring Conference, May 2013, and email was sent to the club.
Club Distinguished by April 1 Achievement Award. Any club recognized by TI with a Distinguished or better status by April 1 will receive $50 to spend in the TI store. The club must have had 20 members or net growth of 5 members to qualify and a minimum of 5 DCP points. Announced at the Spring Conference, May 2013, and email was sent to the club.
June 30 AwardsClub Growth from 5 Award. All District clubs that started the year below 5 members will receive $100 marketing materials from Toastmasters International Store and will receive $50 for TI store purchases for each new member added. (Max 8 members - $400.)
Club Growth from 6 to 7 Award. Any District club that started the year with 6 or 7 members will receive $25 for TI store purchases for each new member added. (Max 8 members - $200.)
Club Growth from 8 to 10 Award. Any District club that started the year with 8 to 10 members will receive $15 for TI store purchases for each new member added. (Max 8 members - $120)
Club Growth from 11 to 13 Award. Any District club that started the year with 11, 12, or 13 members will receive $10 for TI store purchases for each new member added. (Max 10 members - $100)
Other 2012-2013 RecognitionsSmedley Toastmasters Membership Contest (August-September 2012). Every club recognized by TI for this contest will receive $50 to spend in the TI store. Distributed at the Fall Conference, November 2012
Talk Up Toastmasters Membership Contest (February-March 2013). Every club recognized by TI for this contest will receive $50 to spend in the TI store. Distributed at the Spring Conference, May 2013
Beat the Clock Toastmasters Membership Contest (May-June 2013). Every club recognized by TI for this contest will receive $50 to spend in the TI store. Distribute at the Fall Conference, Nov. 2013

Redemption ProcedureThe preferred procedure to redeem award is for the club to shop online at the Toastmaster store, select items, and send the list and local delivery address via email to xxx@d16toastmasters.org. Your redemption order will be made and items will be shipped to you at your provided address. The alternative is for you to shop and ask for a reimbursement. Expiration October 1, 2013The District's procedure is to have clubs redeem items immediately. As these are awards from the 2012-2013 Toastmaster year, the last day to redeem is October 1, 2013.
